From the Service Unit Director

Rachael Askren

The past two weeks we have been interviewing for a new Family Medical Physician and a Medical Director for the Annette Island Service Unit.  Dr. Kellene Lenz, M.D. has accepted the position as our new Family Medical Physician.  We are delighted and welcome Dr. Lenz to the medical staff of the Annette Island Service Unit.

The Metlakatla Indian Community 7th of August is held on Saturday.  The Annette Island Service Unit will be closed in celebration of Founder’s Day on Friday, August 6, 2010.  Please schedule our patients accordingly.  Signs will be posted around town and on T.V. stating our closure.

During the 7th of August parade, watch for the Annette Island Service Unit’s employees; Audrey, Sissy, Tamara, Jenny, Sandy, Tina and Lynette who will represent the “Founder’s Fight against Breast Cancer.”  This is the newest and one of the most exciting participation by our employees.   So, come one and come all to the parade to witness this generous group of women who have been blessed in their lives and have taken the opportunity to give back by fighting Breast Cancer.

Mique’l Askren, Healing Art Curator is working with Art Tech in updating and placing new art through-out the Annette Island Service Unit and the Metlakatla Indian Community.  The school of Salmon in our main lobby is placed in honor of all the professional medical, dental and behavioral health services employees who have contributed to the health care of the patients of the Metlakatla Indian Community.  The new quilts along the wall next to the Priscilla Buxton Quiet Room are dedicated and donated by our local women in the fight against cancer.

We passed our post-occupancy review with Indian Health Service.  The team of the Annette Island Service Unit together has done an outstanding job in providing health care for the Metlakatla Indian Community.  Together we have shown a “True Place of Healing.”

Yours in Health,

Rachael
